Subject: Goth bands
What kind of goth-bands do you've got. I only know one, and that's Within Temptation. And I love their music. But is this a real example of an goth band? They call themselves a gothic band. Or are real goth bands more louder and darker?
And what is your favourite goth band?

Hmm....I don't think Within Temptation is a real Gothic band. But what do I know about music 
Nothing!

Within Temptation doesn't classify as Goth in my opinion, it's metal.
The Damned is my fave band, they had a Goth period in the mid-1980s (Phantasmaroria/Anything). In fact, it's a punk band. Like Siouxsie & the Banshees, that had also a Goth periode in the early 1980's.
My fave Goth band, well, I guess that must be The Sisters of Mercy, with Floodland as the best Goth album ever. The Mission had some good music too, but somehow they are a bit to "hippy" every now and then.
I could mention The Cure, but well... they went all to pop after "A Forest".
Then there is Pseudo Echo. I got an album of theirs but I doubt that is enough to call them Goth or Noth. Same with bands linke Flesh for Lulu, Clan of Xymox, Jesus & the Mary Chain, Letzter Instanz and many others.

WT doesn't call themself gothic, they just get that label from people who have even less knowledge about it than I have...
If I may ask: What exacly is the difference between gothic and metal? What is specific about goth music?

I don't know the difference between gothic and metal, si i call it: Gothic metal 
I do think within temptation is gothic and it's my favourite band.
Others are: Nightwish, Lacuna coil, Epica..
For the more heavier, darker gothbands i like cradle of filth.
And i have another suggestion: Rapalje.. this is'nt gothic but midieval/celtic folk but very populair with the goths.. |

Hmm lots of bands.. like above indeed WT, Nightwish, Lacuna coil, Epica.
Also I love Delain's music.
Other names.. Eilera, Forever Slave, Theatre of Tragedy. And lately I've been listening to Tarja Turunen's album. I can't say I like all songs, but some are very nice.
Btw, hopefully I haven't made anyone mad with my choice of bands to put down here  |
